THE CHEMISTRY OF CURING:
During the curing of Alkaline no bake by ester,
the metal ions in the Phenolic Resin Chains reacts with the acid component of
esters to form alkali metal salts releasing the alcohol by hydrolysis. The
Phenolic Resin is released in a reactive form that polymerizes (gels) at room
temperature leading to primary curing. A secondary curing takes place by heat
during pouring of metal by further cross linking through reactive groups.
Because of its alkaline nature the Phenolic Rasin Ester System is suitable for most types of sands including the alkaline types. E.G. Sea sands, Clay bearing sands, Olivine & Zircon. This is a significant advantage over the acid curing systems.
